What Makes the LG 75QNED85AA Stand Out (and What Doesn't)
The LG 75QNED85AA offers a pragmatic proposition: 75 inches of screen real estate paired with genuine HDMI 2.1 gaming features at $1,099.99. It runs webOS for streamlined app access, supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and delivers the high refresh rates console gamers need. What it doesn't deliver is the HDR punch or deep black levels you'd expect from a premium home theater display.
This is a TV built for scale and convenience rather than picture perfection. If you're furnishing a bright living room, play PS5 or Xbox Series X games regularly, and value size over contrast, the QNED85AA checks those boxes. If you're building a dedicated theater space or watch primarily in dark rooms, independent testing suggests you should look elsewhere.

The Mini LED Marketing vs. Edge-Lit Reality: What You're Actually Getting
LG markets the QNED85AA series under its “Mini LED” branding, but independent testing from RTINGS confirms this TV uses edge-lit backlighting, not full-array local dimming. That's a critical distinction: edge lighting positions LEDs around the screen perimeter rather than distributing them across the entire panel.
The practical impact? Limited control over brightness zones and the visible halos that accompany local dimming in dark scenes. RTINGS testing documents these artifacts as particularly noticeable around bright objects against dark backgrounds—exactly where full-array backlighting would offer finer control.
This isn't a flaw unique to LG; manufacturers across price tiers use aspirational branding that outpaces the underlying technology. The QNED85AA delivers exactly what its price suggests: a large screen with modern smart features and compromised backlighting architecture.
