The ocean is a vast and often terrifying place, full of unknown terrors lurking beneath the surface.
As HP Lovecraft said, “the oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” Scientists estimate that up to 95% of our oceans remain unknown to us – that we know more about the surface of Mars than the bottoms of our ocean.
What we do know is certainly enough to provoke the imagination. Goblin sharks, gulper eels, and vanishing ships are merely a few of the terrors of the deep sea.
