Beginning January 11, 2021, new or updated free or ad-supported (AVOD) channels will need to pass all tests run by the automated Certification Testing tool in the Developer Dashboard in order to be published to the Roku Channel (aff) Store.

When a channel is submitted for certification, any errors generated by the Certification Testing tool will prevent the channel from being scheduled for publishing. If no errors are generated, the channel will automatically be published to the Roku Channel (aff) Store at the time designated by the developer when submitting the channel.

Developers should frequently run the Certification Testing tool during development to ensure high confidence of certification compliance before they submit a channel for certification. The tool, available in the Developer Dashboard since July 2020, currently tests channel launch performance, video playback performance, and deep linking.

Over time, more automated tests will be added to determine channel compliance with other certification criteria that involve channel behavior.

Developers who are preparing to meet the January 11 deadline are welcome to contact Partner Success with any questions about or problems with automated certification testing.
