The world’s most popular music streamer Spotify was £9.99 a month for more than a decade before price changes started to creep in from 2023.

Today, an individual plan sets you back £12.99.

And Spotify isn’t alone. Amazon Music Unlimited recently announced it is hiking the monthly fee to £12.99 – though Prime subscribers can get a £1 discount.

So how can you avoid ever rising costs?

There are actually plenty of tricks worth trying that could save you hundreds in the long run – and could even get you music for free.

#1 Sharing plans

The most obvious saving needs to be mentioned first in case you’ve missed it.

Family sharing plans are one of the best ways to save money on music streaming.

These allow you to pay one bill and share premium access with five other people (who are supposed to be in your household), all with your own individual account.

Spotify’s main family plan costs £21.99, while Apple Music charges £16.99.

Dividing that by six, you’re looking at £3.67 each a month on Spotify.

And on Apple Music, that works out to £2.83 a month.

There’s also a Duo plan for couples for £17.99 on Spotify, if you absolutely prefer their app – but at that price, you may as well go for Apple Music’s family plan.

Don’t forget, just because it’s Apple Music, it doesn’t mean you have to have an iPhone.

Apple Music is available on Android, too.
