Aggie Community,
As we move further into the spring semester and return from a well-deserved break, I want to thank our faculty and staff for the dedication they bring to Texas A&M University and to our students each day. I also appreciate everyone who took the time to share feedback through our recent employee engagement survey. I am pleased to see our response rate increased from 29% last year to 38% this year. Your input is essential as we continue working to strengthen our university and the environment where we live, work and learn in service to the state of Texas.
That dedication reflects a defining characteristic of Texas A&M and one of our Core Values: service. It's not just something we value — it is something we practice daily. Our faculty serve by mentoring and preparing the next generation while advancing knowledge through research that benefits communities across Texas and beyond. Our staff serve by supporting students and colleagues in ways that sustain and advance our mission. Our current and former students serve communities near and far, stepping forward when it matters most. Simply put, service is who we are as Aggies.
I'd like to highlight a few current examples of that service in action:
- Every spring, our students participate in The Big Event, the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation. This weekend, thousands of Aggies will serve residents and local organizations across the Brazos Valley as a way of saying “Thank You” to the local community. Their efforts demonstrate what it means to lead through service.
- This week, I appointed 17 faculty members — one from each college and school — to the new Faculty Advisory Council. These individuals have chosen to serve their colleagues and our university by providing advice on matters related to our academic programs.
