Simplify your Roku Search integration with a single JSON feed that supports all regions

Channels can integrate into Roku Search using the new Roku Search Feed 2.0, which is now available for all channels. The new Search feed specification enables developers to manage a single JSON feed per channel. The Roku search feed includes the following key features:

  • One feed for all regions. A single feed may contain region-specific content metadata and rating sources, which simplifies feed maintenance for developers.
  • Content availability windows. A feed may include availability windows for individual content items.
  • Short-form content. Channels can now include cooking videos, sports highlights, and other short-form content in their search feed.
  • Multiple source IDs. A single feed can contain both channel-specific and Gracenote content source IDs.
  • Multiple aspect ratios for search artwork. Developers can provide content posters and background images in 16:9, 4:3, and 2:3 aspect ratios.

Developers are encouraged to adopt the new format in order to simplify their Roku Search integration. For example, if a channel wants to provide localized metadata for Roku Search, they should use the new 2.0 specification because it supports multiple languages within a single feed.

Channels integrating into the Roku Search for the first time may submit a Search feed using the legacy XML feed until May 1, 2022. After May 1st, the new 2.0 feed format must be used.

Developers can continue using Roku’s feed validation tool to submit search feeds that use the new or legacy format.
