Television has been around since the mid-20th century, offering entertainment to people across the globe, but modern streaming services have changed the way we think about watching movie or shows. “Streaming services are a lot easier because you know it’s everything at the tips of your fingers,” said Rachel Zizmor, a sophomore at Carlmont High School.
Watching television has been a common form of entertainment for decades and continues to evolve. From a television with buttons on its face to a remote with every platform imaginable at our fingertips, the industry continues to thrive. When modern television was first developed in the mid-20th century, it featured black-and-white images and was often encased in big, boxy sets.
“When I was a teenager in the mid-80s, we had a few channels to choose from, and you watched whatever was on. If you missed your show, you missed it — there was no rewinding, no ‘catch up later.’ We’d actually plan our week around TV,” said Erica Song, a mother of two teenage children. “It was so different.”
Kids and teenagers today, who mostly grew up watching modern television and using streaming platforms, believe modern technology has made it easier to watch what they want.
“I think it’s easier for kids to watch shows now, because you don’t have to watch them at a certain time when they’re playing,” said Aria Poeta, a 10-year-old who has grown up watching television on streaming platforms.
