TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Crews responded to a wildfire near Benson on Monday, April 27.
The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said the Triangle Fire started in the 1900 block of East Dragoon Road. That area is about 13 miles east of Benson and two miles southwest of the Texas Canyon Rest Area.
The DFFM said the fire was estimated to be 20 acres as of 9:30 p.m. and was burning through grass and brush.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said a large portion of Dragoon was placed on SET status. The map of the area can be seen below.
The CCSO said Dragoon Road was closed due to the fire, as were the Interstate 10 exits in the area.
At least five aircraft were dispatched to the fire, along with several hand crews, engines, and water tenders.
The cause of the fire is under invesitgation, but there were no reports of storms in the area.
It was the second wildfire in southern Arizona in a week.
On April 20, the Shaw Fire started near Cochise Stronghold. It burned 16 acres and destroyed two structures, but was contained the next day.
